Patrick and Christina met up with me at Balboa Park in San Diego for the E-Session and we had a great time. They are a couple of characters, which makes photographing them a lot of fun.
It was a bright and sunny day, so we leveraged some of the shade and architecture in the park.

Christina and Patrick are both on Active Duty in the U. S. Navy and so we headed over to the place where they first met. They wanted some photos together in uniform, so we headed to front of the building they met in. There is a torpedo out in front, so we went with a more edgy look for this photo.
With such great personalities, it’s hard to get a bad shot.

I recently had the pleasure of photographing a beautiful baby girl for her first pictures, and I have to say that I couldn’t have had a better little model. Caitlin was so cute and did so well, that I am probably spoiled when it comes to newborn sessions now. She slept quietly most of the time, opening her eyes for a little while in order to catch her beautiful blue eyes. While I’m editing the entire session, I thought I would share a few images from our session.

I recently had the opportunity to shoot with a model who has been away from the scene for awhile and is looking to get back into modeling. He primarily did runway work, but would like to do more print and high fashion work. In an effort to start putting together a portfolio for him, we shot at a few locations in downtown San Diego decked out in a new suit.
One of the looks that we were going for was a “business” look. In the shot above, I wanted to capture movement and provide a sense of ‘hurry’ or ‘urgency’ in the photo. The juxtaposition of a business man walking past a graffiti wall just brings that much more to the image. I’m always drawn to color and there’s a lot of that in graffiti.
This shot conveyed a sense of stress or pressure, with the subject seated on a bench in the courtyard with a cigarette. Having the image in Black and White adds a little drama and adds to the mood of the image.
There’s more to come in the future and if you’re a model in the San Diego area who’s looking for a photographer to work with, please feel free to say hello in the comments or contact me via phone or e-mail. Portfolio packages start at $250.00 and include 24 solid images for your book. Get started today!

I had a great time last weekend up in Huntington Beach shooting family portraits for a friend of mine that I hadn’t seen in over 10 years. It was great reconnecting and meeting her family, as well as spending a little time capturing some great memories for them while at their favorite vacation spot – Southern California.
There’s nothing quite like a stroll down the beach… in February! It’s one of the many reasons that folks come to SoCal. That’s the Huntington Beach pier in the background.
One of my favorite shots from the day! We had so much fun getting our families together and making pictures. Can’t wait to see them again!
Just to let everyone know, I’m giving away a FREE PORTRAIT SESSION for Valentine’s Day! How do you win it? Easy! Simply send in a letter describing your most memorable Valentine’s Day and I will narrow it down to the top two. The top two stories will receive a free mini session as my gift to you.
Now, you don’t have to worry, I won’t publish any real names here on the blog in effort to protect the innocent (or not so innocent). As always, there are a few minor rules that must be adhered to in order to keep things on the up and up:
- Letters must be received by February 14th, 2010 at 11:59PM Pacific Standard Time. Letters received after the deadline will be disqualified.
- The Mini Portrait Session prizes cover the photographer’s fee and 5 digital negatives of your choice. If you live outside the greater San Diego area, travel fees are not included.
- You can only enter once. Yep, that’s right… only one entry per household.
- To submit your entry, use our Contact form. It doesn’t have to be pretty or even grammatically correct, so get those letters in quickly!
- Finally, as the sole judge of the contest, I have the final say on all matters concerning the contest. By submitting an entry, you agree to the rules of the contest that are listed in this post.
Alright, now that the rules are out of the way I call tell you more about what the two lucky winners will receive!
- A Mini Portrait Session shot on location (up to 1 hour maximum)
- 5 Digital Negatives (Creative Processing & Retouching Included)
- A private web gallery to select your 5 photos, share them with friends, and order prints and specialty products!
So don’t wait until the last minute, get your entry in today! The contest is officially open and will run until 11:59PM Pacific Standard Time on February 14th, 2010. I look forward to reading your entries, judging the contest, and wish you all a very Happy Valentine’s Day!
Two weekends ago I shot some family portraits in Balboa Park. The park is one of my favorite locations to shoot because of the variety of backgrounds and scenery that can really add to a photo. There are so many different elements – from architecture to floral and they are all great. We shot in the late afternoon and so the light was starting to get really nice, in addition to the fact that there were some clouds in the sky.
Check out some of the shots we got:

We had a lot of fun and the park gave us a more Fall feeling than some of the other locations in the area. I love shooting at the beach, but it just doesn’t cut it when you’re going for any other look than ‘Summer’.
I hope you enjoyed the photos and be sure to stop back by and see what I’ve been up to! Have a great week!

I mean REALLY, who doesn’t enjoy having photos taken on the beach to use for Holiday cards to send to friends and family who live in a much colder part of the world? Ya know?! I had a great time shooting with this couple and we got some great pictures for them. The best part about shooting at the beach this time of year is that it’s empty… and I mean EMPTY. It makes portraits a breeze because we can move about and not have to worry about people walking in the shot, location, etc.
Check out the reflections that were coming off of the sand that afternoon! Coronado is great for that because the sand on the beach is very fine (almost like powder) and it holds water very, very well. Low tide is a great time to shoot!
As the sun was starting to set, we started having some fun… which is the point of each and every session that I shoot.
We even had time to get a little dirty, which anyone who wants pictures shot on the beach should never be afraid of.
Hope you enjoyed the photos. Monday’s here and it’s work, work, work! This time of year is extremely busy for photographers. However, there’s still time for some family portraits for the Holidays. Be sure to get in touch with us and book your photo session in time! Have a great day!

This time of year is always busy for photographers, with the Holidays approaching many families are getting new portraits for cards and prints. The great thing about shooting portraits on location is that you get a wide variety of backgrounds and environments, which you don’t ordinarily get with a studio setup. Even Sears only has so many looks.
I shot these family portraits at their home on a golf course here in San Diego. They identify with the course as it’s a part of their lives and so they wanted to incorporate that into their photos. I had a great time shooting their portraits and as you can see, we got some really great shots.
Their oldest daughter was so cute in her little red dress and black shoes! What a doll!

Their baby girl was also a sweetheart and both girls were so good during our session. It’s hard to miss the shot with such a great family as your subject.
